What 8E-2467 is, and where it sits
8E-2467 is a top bolt-on loader bucket adapter with a J450 nose, cast at 25.5 kg and printed at 455 × 156 × 45 mm. It is one of the last two bolted bases on the loader side of the J-series ladder, and the only bolted base the tables print against the 988. Above it the J460, J550 and J600 rows are weld-on castings; below it the ladder steps down through 1U-1357 (J350, 19.8 kg, 400 × 140 × 40 mm), 3G-3357 (J300, 16.9 kg, 360 × 116 × 87 mm), 3G-9307 (J250, 14.7 kg), 4T-4307 (J200, 13.2 kg) and finally the small 1U-0257 and 9J-4207 castings at 8.9 kg and 3 kg.
Two things about this casting are worth knowing before you order it, because both catch buyers out. The first is that the rung does not describe the weight: 8E-2467 is a 25.5 kg J450 casting while the smaller J400 top bolt-on 6I-9898 is 27.5 kg. The second is that the bolted base is a service part, not a structural one — it exists so that a worn nose can be unbolted rather than cut out, and the 5P-8361 bolts and 5P-8362 nuts that hold it are as much a part of the assembly as the casting. If the bolt holes in the lip are oval, replacing the casting alone will not fix the movement.
Teeth that fit the 8E-2467 nose
The J450 family covers everything from a 10.4 kg short point to a 21.9 kg rock point, and all of them share the same pin and retainer:
| Tooth | Profile | Weight | A × B × C | Pin / retainer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9W-8451 | Standard short | 10.4 kg | 260 × 132 × 112 mm | 8E-0468 / 8E-8469 |
| 9W-8452 | Standard long | 11.6 kg | 290 × 128 × 108 mm | 8E-0468 / 8E-8469 |
| 9N-4452 | Heavy duty long | 16.0 kg | 310 × 138 × 117 mm | 8E-0468 / 8E-8469 |
| 9W-1453 | Abrasion | 15.9 kg | 333 × 132 × 142 mm | 8E-0468 / 8E-8469 |
| 138-6451 | Rock penetration HD | 21.9 kg | 355 × 132 × 48 mm | 8E-0468 / 8E-8469 |
| 107-3450 | Wide | 15.9 kg | 295 × 138 × 225 mm | 8E-0468 / 8E-8469 |
The alternative pin and retainer pair for this rung is 114-0468 and 107-3469. Do not confuse the pin 8E-0468 with the J460 adapters 8E-0464, 8E-0465 and 8E-0466 — one digit apart, both live on the same machines, and one of them is a 20 kg casting.
Where the bolted ladder ends
The last three rows of the top bolt-on table, as printed, so you can see what a 988 or 980 lip is choosing between:
| Adapter | Rung | Weight | Printed size | Machine lines as printed | Fastener |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6I-9898 | J400 | 27.5 kg | 460 × 156 × 45 mm | 977 / 983 / 980 | Bolt and nut |
| 1U-1357 | J350 | 19.8 kg | 400 × 140 × 40 mm | 950E / 966E / 980C / 980E | Bolt and nut |
| 8E-2467 | J450 | 25.5 kg | 455 × 156 × 45 mm | 980 / 988 | Bolt 5P-8361, nut 5P-8362 |
Note the jump: 6I-9898 and 8E-2467 differ by 5 mm in length and 1 mm across the nose strap, but by a whole rung in what they will hold. The lip preparation is similar, which is exactly why they get mixed up on a rebuilt bucket — a J450 tooth will not seat on a J400 nose, and it will look almost right on the pallet.
Ordering and supply
We supply 8E-2467 as a new aftermarket casting with the fitment dimensions above, quoted FOB Shanghai or CIF to your port, generally dispatched in 3–7 days from stock and 15–25 days for production quantities. Every lot is weighed and photographed against your order, and the weight on the packing list is the weight on the scale rather than the catalogue figure — the metric and imperial catalogues disagree by up to 2 kg on castings in this family, so we do not quote a number we have not measured. Ask for the hardness figure of the lot you are buying and we will send the test slip with the offer.
Nothing on this page is a genuine Caterpillar part. The 8E-2467 number is used to cross-reference fitment only. If you are working through a full lip, the Cat 988 teeth and adapters guide sets out all four adapters printed for that machine, and the bolt-on and side-pin adapter guide covers the J200–J450 ladder in the same detail.
FAQ
Q: Is 8E-2467 a corner adapter or a centre adapter?
A: The bolt-on table prints it for the 980 and 988 without splitting the two positions, and the casting is used in both with different lip preparation. Send a photograph of the position and the bolt pattern; the hole spacing on the lip decides it.
Q: What teeth fit it?
A: The J450 family — 9W-8451, 9W-8452, 9N-4452, 9W-1453, 138-6451 and 107-3450, from 10.4 kg to 21.9 kg, all on pin 8E-0468 with retainer 8E-8469 (or 114-0468 with 107-3469).
Q: Can it be welded in instead?
A: It can, but then it is no longer the part the table prints. If the lip is being rebuilt permanently, the weld-on castings for the same machines — 8E-0464 or 114-0464 in J460, 107-3554 in J550 — are designed for that and cost less per point.
Q: Why does the J450 adapter weigh less than the J400?
A: Because the metal sits in different places. 25.5 kg against 27.5 kg on a smaller nose; the rung describes the tooth it carries, not the mass of the casting.
