The Element Behind Vague Controls

The pilot filter sits on the low-flow side of the hydraulic system: it protects the pilot pump and the spools that turn a joystick movement into a pressure signal. When it loads up, nothing fails loudly — the machine keeps digging, the levers just answer a beat late, and the operator blames the pump. On the DX225LCA the element is printed as ELEMENT;FILTER(PILOT) in Fig. 5110, next to the return element and the air breather.

NumberPositionPublished sizeFits which housing
2471-1154Pilot42.5–43 × 21.5 × 83.5–90 mmEarly and mid DX builds; the number printed in the DX225LCA book
400504-00241Pilot, later build44 × 22.5 × 85 mmLater DX production; cross-referenced to Donaldson P502667
474-00055 / 400504-00277Return150 × 110 × 450 mmTank return, unchanged in size across the break

One row of that table is a warning. The two pilot numbers differ by 1.5 mm on the outside and a few millimetres in height — small enough to look interchangeable in a photograph, large enough that the cap will not seat. If a supplier ships 400504-00241 against an order for 2471-1154, it is the wrong element, whatever the cross-reference sheet says.

Published heights for the same OEM number run from 83.5 mm (Donaldson's sheet) to 90 mm (one reseller listing). That is a measuring convention, not a different filter — but it is exactly why a buyer should send the height off the old element rather than quote a catalogue figure back to us.

Ordering Notes

  • Serial plate first. The DX225LCA book covers S/N 5001 and up; later machines move to 400504-00241.
  • Three measurements, one photo. Outside diameter, inside bore and height, with the old element beside a rule.
  • Order the set, not the element. Return element and breather sit in the same tank and the same service window; splitting them across two shipments costs more than the filters.
  • Aftermarket, stated plainly. Aftermarket element cross-referenced to Doosan numbers. Doosan and Develon are trademarks of their owners, used here to describe fitment only.
  • No published prices. Quantity, packing and shipping lane set the figure — ask for a quote, FOB Shanghai or CIF.

FAQ

Q: What size is the Doosan 2471-1154 pilot filter?
A: Roughly 43 mm outside, 21.5 mm inside and 87 mm high; catalogues publish 42.5–43 mm and 83.5–90 mm depending on how they measure.

Q: Will 400504-00241 fit where 2471-1154 is listed?
A: No. 400504-00241 is 44 × 22.5 × 85 mm — a different element for a different housing.

Q: Where does the pilot filter sit on a DX225LCA?
A: In the pilot circuit, feeding the pilot pump and joystick spools. Fig. 5110 of the parts book lists it with the return element and air breather.

Q: Is this a genuine Doosan filter?
A: No — aftermarket element, cross-referenced for fitment only.
