Doosan DX225 filter elements: engine oil, hydraulic return and pilot cartridges

Three machines wear the same badge. A DX225LC, a DX225LCA and a DX225LC-5 parked in the same yard look like variations of one excavator, and in most respects they are — same 22-tonne class, same hydraulic layout, mostly the same filter positions. But "mostly" is the word that fills a returns bin. Two of the differences are big enough to be obvious once the old element is on the bench. Two are small enough to be missed on a purchase order and expensive at the machine: a 30 mm shorter return element and a fuel filter that changed from a cartridge to a spin-on.

1. The full matrix, position by position

The two older columns come from Doosan's aftermarket sales reference book, which carries a separate row for the DX225LC and the DX225LCA. The DX225LC-5 column comes from a Develon filter-kit listing for that model, cross-checked against parts resellers that name the DX225LC-5 explicitly. Where a column reads "book", the number is the one printed in the machine's own parts manual rather than the reference table.

Read that table by machine, not by number. A purchase order that lists "DX225 filters" as one line and lets the supplier pick the numbers is how a fleet ends up with a 420 mm return element for a machine that takes 450 mm — the two look identical in a photograph and differ by three centimetres.

2. Engine oil: one thread size separates them

The DX225LC and the DX225LC-5 share an engine oil filter, even though the numbers differ. 400508-00091 and 400508-00036 are both published at 108 mm outside diameter, 204 to 205 mm high, with a 1 1/2-16 UN thread and a 99 mm outside / 90 mm inside gasket, and both cross to the same Donaldson number, P550371. They are the same element under two Doosan numbers, which is why a mixed LC and LC-5 order can be one line.

The DX225LCA is not in that group. Its parts book prints 65.05510-5028A — a cartridge at 93 mm outside, 170 mm high, with a 1-16 UN-2B thread, cross-referenced to Fleetguard LF3934 and Mann W 950/41. Smaller body, smaller thread. The two will not interchange in either direction, and the mistake is easy to make because both numbers appear in the same reference book on adjacent rows.

3. Fuel: a cartridge became a spin-on

On the DX225LC the fuel filter is an element that sits inside a housing. 400504-00078 is listed as ELEMENT, FUEL FILTER, and Doosan's own parts breakdown for machines using the same assembly shows it as item 1B under filter assembly 400403-00129 — so on that build you buy the element and keep the housing. Vendor cross-references print 65.12503-5026 against it.

The DX225LCA and DX225LC-5 use 400403-00126 instead, a spin-on can published at 93 mm outside, 190 to 192 mm high, M20 × 1.5 thread with a 72 mm gasket, cross-referenced to 65.12503-5026A. Put the two Doosan cross-numbers side by side and the difference is a single letter at the end: 5026 is the element, 5026A is the can. They are not interchangeable, because the housings are not the same part. If a supplier quotes "the DX225 fuel filter" without asking which build, that is the question to ask back.

4. Hydraulic return: 30 mm is the whole story

The return element is the most expensive filter on the machine and the one most often bought in bulk, so this is where the error travels furthest. The DX225LC and DX225LCA use the same element at 150 mm outside, 110 mm inside and 450 mm high, sold as 400504-00277 and printed as 474-00055 in the LCA parts book, with K9005928 as the aftermarket house number.

The DX225LC-5 moved to 400504-00225 — same diameters, shorter body. Catalogues publish it at 149 to 150 mm outside, 109.5 to 110 mm inside and 419 to 420 mm high, weighing 2.58 to 2.96 kg depending on how it is listed, and give 400504-00034 as the paired number alongside Sakura H-52230 and Sure SFH0225. Three centimetres of height is not a tolerance: the cap either compresses the gasket or it does not. We have written the size comparison on the 400504-00225 product page so it can be checked against a photo of the old element before ordering.

5. Air cleaner: one element, three prefixes

The air cleaner numbers look like the biggest difference in the table and are probably the smallest. Catalogues cross-list 474-00039, 974-00039 and 400401-00090 as one element — the inner safety element, published by one filter house at 133 mm across, 0.825 kg — and 474-00040, 974-00040 and 400401-00091 as the outer, cross-referenced to Donaldson P532966 and AF25667. The prefix changed with catalogue generation, not with the machine.

The caution is that vendor lists do not all agree on what sits behind those numbers. One catalogue attaches a different Donaldson number to 474-00039 than another does, and a Hengst sheet lists the same OEM number against a 469 mm element, which cannot be a safety element that sits inside the outer. That is a catalogue error somewhere in the chain, and it is why we quote air elements on the OEM number plus a measurement of the old element rather than on a cross-reference alone.

6. The LC-5 is a Stage IV machine, and it shows

The DX225LC-5 runs the six-cylinder Doosan DL06P at 124 kW with EGR and SCR using AdBlue, which is what puts urea filter 400412-00003 in its kit and leaves the two older builds without that position. The cabin filters moved too, from 471-00119 and 400402-00038 to 400402-00076B and 400402-00077A. Neither is a hydraulic part, and both are exactly the kind of line that gets left off a service-kit order because the person raising it was working from an older machine's list.

7. What to send with an enquiry

  • The model suffix, spelled out. LC, LCA and LC-5 are three different filter lists. "DX225" alone is not an answer.
  • The serial plate. The LCA has its own serial break on the hydraulic pair, so the plate settles which numbers apply.
  • The old element photographed against a rule. Diameter, bore and height. On the return element this is the only check that distinguishes 450 mm from 420 mm at a glance.
  • A photograph of the fuel filter housing. Cartridge or spin-on decides 400504-00078 against 400403-00126 in one look.
  • Quantities per position. Return elements go in as one or two depending on the tank, and the breather 400504-00254 is normally changed with them.

We supply these as aftermarket elements cross-referenced to Doosan numbers, quoted FOB Shanghai or CIF. None of them is a genuine Doosan part, and Doosan and Develon are trademarks of their owners, used here to describe fitment only. For the position-by-position detail on the LCA itself, see Doosan DX225LCA filter numbers and the serial break; for the general method, see how to read a filter cross-reference and the pilot, case-drain and return positions explained. Fleet comparisons of the same kind are in the PC200-7 versus PC200-8 parts guide and the 320D versus 320D2 parts guide.

FAQ

Q: Do the DX225LC and DX225LC-5 take the same filters?
A: For most positions, yes — engine oil (400508-00091 and 400508-00036 are the same element), pre-fuel 400508-00062, pilot 400504-00241, suction 400408-00049 and breather 400504-00254. They differ on fuel (cartridge versus spin-on), hydraulic return (450 mm versus about 420 mm) and the cabin filter pair.

Q: Can I use a DX225LC-5 oil filter on a DX225LCA?
A: No. The LCA takes 65.05510-5028A at 93 mm outside and 170 mm high with a 1-16 UN thread; the LC and LC-5 element is 108 mm outside and about 205 mm high with a 1 1/2-16 UN thread.

Q: Is 974-00039 the same element as 474-00039?
A: Catalogues cross-list 474-00039, 974-00039 and 400401-00090 as the inner element and 474-00040, 974-00040 and 400401-00091 as the outer, so the prefixes look like catalogue generations rather than different parts. Measure the old element before a bulk order; the lists disagree too often to rely on alone.

Q: Does the DX225LC-5 have a urea filter?
A: Yes — 400412-00003 appears in the LC-5's filter kit and in neither of the older builds, because the LC-5 is a Stage IV DL06P machine with SCR and AdBlue.

The DX225LC and DX225LCA rows, including the eleven-position column order, come from Doosan's aftermarket sales reference book for the DX225 range. The LCA "book" numbers are from the Doosan DX225LCA parts book, fourth edition dated 12 September 2012, Fig. 5110 spare parts set. The DX225LC-5 column comes from a Develon filter-kit listing for that model, checked against parts resellers that name the DX225LC-5 on the 400504-00225 and 400504-00241 pages. Dimensions, weights and cross-references were read on 25 October 2026 from filter catalogues and reseller listings for 400508-00036, 400508-00091, 65.05510-5028A, 400504-00078, 400403-00126, 400508-00062, 400504-00225, 400504-00241, 474-00039, 474-00040, 974-00039 and 974-00040.
