Volvo 11110175 and 11110176: The Outer Air Filter and the Safety Element Behind It

Volvo 11110175 primary air filter element with the 11110176 safety element beside it

11110175 is the primary air filter on Volvo's EC200 to EC235 excavators and L60 to L90 wheel loaders; 11110176 is the safety element inside it. The outer is published at 461 to 472 mm long by 235 to 237 mm outside, the inner at 449 to 455 mm by 132 to 135 mm. Both are radial-seal elements, sold separately.

This pair is the most common air filter order we get from West Africa and the Gulf, and it goes wrong in a predictable way. A buyer pulls the big element out of the canister, photographs it next to a tape, and orders by the number he wrote down last time — not noticing that the last order was for the inner, or that the number he saved is the housing. On a machine working a quarry face, that mistake is a dusted engine six weeks later.

1. Two elements, one canister

The air cleaner assembly holds both. Volvo's parts marketplace lists 11110175 as a filter "included in" air cleaners VOE11110603, VOE14510586 and VOE14346120, and in service kit VOE54804563. Those four numbers appear in third-party cross-reference tables as if they were filter numbers too, which is the first place this goes wrong — more on that below.

Both elements seal radially, on the inside of the outlet neck rather than against a flat gasket. That design is why the intake tube stays clean and why seating matters more than torque: push the element in until the seal seats, and nothing else holds it.

2. Which element does the work

11110175 filters. Donaldson publishes the equivalent P778905 as a primary radial-seal element in pleated cellulose, closed at the bottom end, with a metal mesh guard on the outside, 99.9% efficient to ISO 5011 and weighing 5.16 lb (2.34 kg). That is the element holding back the grit, and it is sized to hold a lot of it before restriction climbs.

11110176 catches what gets past a damaged or badly seated primary. It is thin media on a light frame — about 0.9 to 0.95 kg depending on the catalogue — and it is not built to carry the full dust load. Three consequences follow, and all three are ignored on site:

  • Do not run the machine with the primary removed, even for an afternoon. The safety element will pass dust long before it looks dirty.
  • Do not wash or blow out the safety element. The media is not made for it, and cleaning drives the caught dust through it.
  • Do not pull it out to "check". Every removal works the radial seal. Use the restriction indicator on the housing instead.

3. Published sizes, and the 11 mm that is not a different part

Three catalogues, three sets of figures for the same two elements. None of them is wrong; they measure different things, and the buyer who compares them without knowing that concludes the numbers are unreliable and orders on the model name instead.

Fleetguard (AF25749, inner)—455 mm / 132 mm / 94 mm—

The outer element is either 460 or 461 mm or 472 mm depending on who is holding the caliper. Pallman's own page gives both numbers — 460 mm element, 475 mm overall — which is the tell: one figure is the media face height, the other includes the end caps and seal. Measure your old element end to end, cap to cap, and compare it against the larger figure. The bore is the figure that decides fitment: 131 mm on the primary against 94 to 95 mm on the safety element. Those are seal diameters on two different parts rather than one tube — the safety element seals on the housing spigot behind the primary, which is also why its outside diameter (132 to 134.6 mm) is not smaller than the primary's 131 mm bore. Compare them as one bore and the numbers look wrong.

4. One element, eight brands of sticker

This is the useful part for a mixed fleet. The same physical element is sold under a long list of OEM numbers, and a buyer running Volvos next to a JCB and a Liebherr loader can stock one line instead of three.

Note the pattern: every one of those brands sells both elements, and in most cases the two numbers sit next to each other in the same series. That is why a counter hand can hand you the wrong one and be perfectly sincere about it.

5. The Volvo numbers that are not the filter

Volvo prints the element as 11110175, VOE11110175 and occasionally 111101754 — a stray digit in one cross table, not a second part. The inner is 11110176, VOE11110176 and sometimes 111101762. Those aliases are harmless once you know them.

The expensive confusion is a different set: 11110603, 14510586, 14346120 are air cleaner assemblies on Volvo's own catalogue, and 54804563 is the service kit. Several cross-reference tables print 14510586 and 11110335 as alternate numbers for the elements, and at least one prints the same two numbers against both the outer and the inner. If a supplier quotes you a price for "the filter" that looks like it belongs to a housing, that is what happened — you have been quoted the can, not the element. Ask for the height and the weight before you pay.

6. What the pair fits

Taken from the applicable machine list on Volvo's parts marketplace for VOE11110175, which is the most specific published fitment we found. Model suffixes and the EC230B / EC235C / FC-series rows come from dealer fitment lists rather than Volvo's own page, so treat those as indicative and check by serial:

That range is the reason this element is worth keeping on the shelf: the same air filter covers a 21-tonne excavator, a 20-tonne wheeled machine and a 15-tonne loader, plus the compaction and paving side of a road contract. Volvo adds the usual caveat that configuration decides, and on a used machine imported from a third market that caveat is real — quote the serial, not just the model.

7. Ordering notes

  • Order the pair, ship the pair. The safety element is a fraction of the price of the primary and a rounding error against an engine rebuild. Sending one without the other is how a customer ends up re-using a loaded safety element.
  • Photograph the old element with a tape across the length. 461 mm, 472 mm — either figure is fine, but a photo settles which element came out of the canister faster than any part number discussion.
  • Read the housing number off the canister label. 11110603, 14510586, 14346120 — tell us which one, and the pair is confirmed against the machine.
  • Check the dust valve and the restriction indicator while the lid is off. A missing dust valve means the housing is being emptied into the intake, and a new element will not fix that.
  • Aftermarket, stated plainly. Everything we supply is aftermarket, cross-referenced to Volvo numbers for fitment only. Volvo is a trademark of its owner; ask your Volvo dealer for a genuine part by 11110175 if your service contract requires one.
  • No published prices. Quote depends on quantity, packing and lane — ask and you get a firm figure, FOB Shanghai or CIF.

No service intervals, micron ratings or prices are quoted, because the sources we read do not publish them for these numbers.

FAQ

Q: Is 11110175 the outer or the inner air filter?
A: 11110175 is the outer primary element — the large one, published at roughly 461 to 472 mm long and 235 to 237 mm outside diameter, and the one that does the filtering. 11110176 is the safety element that sits inside it, at roughly 449 to 455 mm long and 132 to 135 mm outside diameter.

Q: What is the difference between 11110175 and 11110176?
A: 11110175 is pleated cellulose with a metal mesh guard, listed by Donaldson as 99.9% efficient to ISO 5011 and weighing about 2.3 kg. 11110176 is a light safety element of about 0.9 kg that catches what gets past a torn or badly seated primary. The safety element is a backstop, not a filter you can run on.

Q: Does 11110175 fit an EC210B, an EC210C and an L60 loader?
A: Yes. Volvo's parts marketplace lists the element across the EC200B to EC235D excavator range, the EW160C to EW240E wheeled excavators, the L60E to L90H loaders and the DD, SD and ABG paver ranges. Configuration varies by build, so quote the machine serial when you order.

Q: Can the safety element 11110176 be cleaned and reused?
A: No. It is not built to be washed or blown out, and pulling it for inspection disturbs the radial seal every time. Leave it in place, watch the restriction indicator, and replace it whenever the primary has been torn, badly seated or run past its restriction limit.
