The J400 Family, Profile by Profile

Buying a J400 tooth is really choosing a profile on the J400 pin. The published numbers, all from aftermarket catalogues and all on the same 7T-3408 pin:

Note what the dimensions say. The 7T-3402 loader profile is printed 114 mm deep at the adapter end; the 6Y-7409 penetration point of the same series is 37 mm. Same pin, same nose class, very different castings — which is why "we ran a J400 on the old machine" is not a specification until you name the profile.

Pin, Retainer and the Two Catalogue Answers

The J400 pin is the easy part: 7T-3408 in both catalogues, also written 116-7408. The retainer is where the aftermarket splits, and it is worth knowing before a quotation arrives. Black Cat prints retainer 7T-3409 (alternative 116-7409); TRASTEEL prints 8E-8409 (alternative 166-7409). Both are sold into the same 980-class loaders and 330/336-class excavator buckets. If your old retainer is stamped 7T-3409 and your new quote says 8E-8409, nothing is wrong — you are being handed the other catalogue's answer. The site has more on that pattern in the J-series ladder guide, and on the 7T-3408 pin turning up in Doosan parts rows in the DH300 / DX300 guide.

One caution that pays for itself: if the pin came out of a worn nose with a hammer and the tip sat loose, buy the adapter with the teeth. A J400 tip on a worn nose loses pins, and a lost pin means a tip in the crusher.

Adapters: Bolt-On for Loaders, Weld-On for the Rest

J400 teeth are fitted two ways. On wheel loaders, the bolt-on adapter is 6I-9898 in the centre position — 63.2 lb / 28.7 kg, 1.75 in bolt, published for the 980G, 980H, 980F and 980C — with 6I-8243 and 6I-8244 at the corners at 77.9 lb / 35.3 kg. On excavator and older loader buckets the two-strap weld-on adapter for this tooth class is 125-8404 at 37.2 lb / 16.9 kg, published for 980 / 973 / 966 machines. Whichever route your bucket uses, the nose has to be a J400 nose: measure across it at the pin line, because a J350 nose and a J450 nose are both close enough in a photo to fool a buyer.

Where We Fit In

We supply 7T-3402 castings, the 7T-3408 pins and the retainers as one line item, so nothing arrives that does not fit what it came with. Send the tooth number, the pin number or a photo of both old parts with a tape measure in frame, and tell us the ground you are working in — we will quote the profile that lasts rather than the one that is easiest to price.
