1. The Difference Is the System Size, Not the Quality

J300 and J350 are two sizes of the same Caterpillar bucket tooth system. The part numbers carry the profile, the family name carries the size, and the size is what you have to get right: a J350 tip will not lock onto a J300 adapter nose, and a J300 tip sitting on a J350 nose will rattle, walk its pin out and be gone by the end of the shift. Since the two castings look almost the same in a phone photo, the buyers who get this right are the ones who measure before they order.

Cat describes the J300 general purpose tip as a long tip with symmetrical self-sharpening cavities, intended for general excavation and loading at low to moderate impact and abrasion. The J350 general purpose tooth is described by Cat as designed to penetrate and loosen soil and rocks. Same steel concept, same pin-and-retainer method, one size apart.

Read the table one row at a time and the family logic is obvious: each step up adds almost exactly 25 mm of length. J350 is 25 mm longer and 10 mm wider at the point than J300. That 10 mm is the reason the two cannot share an adapter — it is not a tolerance, it is a different pocket around a different nose.

3. The Hardware Travels With the Family

Pins and retainers are sized by family, not by tooth profile, which simplifies a mixed order: every tip in the same family takes the same pin.

The pin is the single most useful item in this table, because it is the one you can verify with a caliper in a minute. A US dealer listing for the 9J2308 J300 pin describes it as approximately 3-5/8 in long by 9/16 in diameter, slotted and chamfered at both ends so it can be driven in from either side — that is 92 mm × 14.3 mm, which is the same pin the distributor wear charts give for the J300 system. Cross-check any number you are offered against that measurement.

Two practical notes from container experience. First, order one pin and one retainer per tooth; a quote that prices teeth alone is not a complete quote, because a lost pin costs you the whole tooth. Second, keep the families in separate bags on the pallet with the pin size written on the label — that single habit prevents the most common mistake we see, which is a fitter picking a J300 pin for a J350 tip and driving it in anyway.

Notice that both 1U-3302 and 1U-3352 appear against 320-family machines. That is not an error on Cat's site: a 320 bucket can carry either system depending on how it was built and whether it has been rebuilt with a different lip. It is exactly why we ask for a photo of the adapter nose and the pin measurement instead of relying on the machine model alone. The model gets you close; the pin and the nose get you right.
