Three Numbers That Measure Almost the Same
Sakura's catalogue is the clearest published source for this engine, and it treats the SK200-8 fuel cartridges as separate items rather than one part with aliases. YN21P01036R100 crosses to EF-2701: 167 mm overall, 155 mm of media, 94 mm outside, 26 mm bore, 14 micron, with a note that the 7-micron upgrade is EF-27040. YN21P01088R100 crosses to EF-27014: 156.5 mm, the same 94 mm outside and 26 mm bore but a 44 mm second bore at the base, rated 4 micron absolute.
EXCO's listing for the same cartridge family — FX46385 — prints 162.7 mm overall, 94.5 mm outside and 26.2 mm bore, and names Hitachi 4649267 and 4676385, John Deere 467638 and Kobelco YN21P01068R100 as the numbers it replaces. So three Kobelco numbers, three heights between 155 and 167 mm, and a micron rating that moves from 4 to 14 depending on which one you have in your hand. None of those sources is careless; they are describing different elements that were designed around the same housing envelope.

Why the Position Matters More Than the Number
Water separator and secondary element do different jobs, and the ratings above reflect that. The separator has to pass a high volume of cold, dirty bulk diesel without collapsing, catch water and shed the coarse fraction; the secondary has to stop the fine abrasive that reaches the injectors. Put the 14-micron cartridge in the secondary position on a J05E and you have left the injectors unprotected — the symptom appears months later as hard starting and a rail fault, not as a filter problem. Put a 4-micron cartridge in the separator position and it loads up in weeks on poor fuel, which reads as "these filters block early".
So when you ask us for this number, tell us where it sits. A bowl with a drain and a water sensor is the separator; a canister bolted to the engine is the secondary. If the element comes out of a housing with a priming pump on top, photograph the housing — that settles it faster than any cross table.
The Element and the Head
YN21P01088F1 is not this part. Kobelco's breakdown for the fuel filter with separator lists the assembly as LS21P01028F1 and item 1-1 inside it as element YN21P01088R100, and distributors sell the F1 with the base included and the water sensor excluded. Priced against an element it is roughly two orders of magnitude dearer, which is the quickest way to spot that a quote has been built on the assembly number.
Cross-Brand: One Cartridge, Several Fleets
The same physical cartridge serves Hitachi and John Deere machines as 4649267, 4676385 and 467638, and appears as Case IH KHH12030 with 47585451, Isuzu 8971527380 and Sumitomo KHH12030 in supplier tables. On the filter side it collapses to Donaldson P502463, Fleetguard FF5786, Baldwin PF7983, Hifi SN 25044 and Hengst E801KPD503. For a workshop running Kobelco alongside Hitachi, that is one line covering both — and, because the numbers sit so close together, also the reason a counter sale can go wrong without anyone noticing.
FAQ
Q: What size is the Kobelco YN21P01088R100 fuel filter?
A: 94 mm outside, 26 mm bore at the top and 44 mm at the base, 156.5 mm high on Sakura's EF-27014 data. One supplier sheet for the same trade prints 155 mm high, a 24 mm bore and a 5–10 micron rating. Measure the old element before you swap numbers.
Q: Is YN21P01088R100 the same as YN21P01036R100?
A: No. Both are 94 mm cartridges with a 26 mm bore, but YN21P01036R100 crosses to Sakura EF-2701 at 167 mm and 14 micron, while this one crosses to EF-27014 at 156.5 mm and 4 micron absolute. Same envelope, different filtration.
Q: Which machines take YN21P01088R100?
A: Dealer listings for the number name the Kobelco SK200-8, SK250-8, SK350-9, SK450-8 and SK485-9. The lists do not fully agree, so quote the serial and the filter position when ordering.
Q: Is this a genuine Kobelco filter?
A: No — aftermarket element, cross-referenced for fitment. Kobelco and Hino are trademarks of their owners. Ask your Kobelco dealer for a genuine part by YN21P01088R100 if your service contract requires one.
