The 94 mm Family, Ranked by Rating
Four Kobelco numbers in this envelope, all between 155 and 167 mm tall, all 94 mm outside with a 26 mm bore. What separates them is not the shell, it is the media and the number of pleats behind it:
| Number | Height | Published rating | Filter-brand cross |
|---|---|---|---|
| YN21P01088R100 | 156.5 mm | 4 micron absolute (Sakura EF-27014) | Donaldson P502463 |
| LS21P01013R100 | 162.81 mm | 5 micron to SAE J1985 (Hytec) | Mann PU10026x, FF5786, PF7983 |
| YN21P01068R100 | 162.7 mm | not published on the sheets read | EXCO FX46385 |
| YN21P01036R100 | 167 mm overall, 155 mm media | 14 micron (Sakura EF-2701) | Donaldson P502423 |
| YN21P01036S002 | same as YN21P01036R100 in supplier tables | 14 micron | listed with the -R100 |
The awkward part is that the aftermarket does not agree on how many parts this is. Mann's PU10026x lists LS21P01013R100, YN21P01036R100, YN21P01036S002, YN21P01068R100 and YN21P01088R100 in a single OEM table. HiFi's SN 25044 does the same, adding VH23390E0010 and a Case IH set. Donaldson splits the family in two: P502423 for the EF-2701 element and P502463 for the high-efficiency 4-micron one. Buy on a single cross-reference and you may get a 14-micron element where the machine expects a 4 or 5.
Why Five Microns Is Not Interchangeable With Fourteen
On a common-rail J05E the fuel element sits downstream of the water separator and upstream of a pump running clearances measured in single microns. A 14-micron element passes the abrasive that scores nozzle seats; the damage does not announce itself as a filter fault. It arrives months later as hard starting, a rail pressure code or a set of injectors. A 5-micron element in the separator position is the opposite error: it blinds early on dirty bulk diesel and the complaint becomes "these filters block in three weeks".
So tell us the position when you order. A bowl with a drain and a water sensor is the separator; a canister bolted to the engine is the fine stage.
Fitting Notes
- Height matters more than width. All four numbers are 94 mm across; a 12 mm difference in height changes how the element seats against the housing spring.
- Bring the old element's cap-to-cap measurement. Two catalogues for this number differ by 1.8 mm, which is inside manufacturing tolerance but outside what a cross-reference promises.
- Seals in the box. If a supplier ships without the O-ring set, the price is not the price.
FAQ
Q: What size is the Kobelco LS21P01013R100 fuel filter?
A: 162.81 mm high, 94.49 mm outside and a 26.16 mm bore on Hytec's SK250-8 page, rated 5 micron to SAE J1985. A UK distributor listing for the same number gives 94 mm outside, 26 mm bore and 161 mm high. Measure the element you remove.
Q: Is LS21P01013R100 the same as YN21P01036R100?
A: They share the 94 mm envelope and Mann PU10026x lists both in one table, along with YN21P01036S002, YN21P01068R100 and YN21P01088R100. The published ratings differ: 5 micron to SAE J1985 here against 14 micron for the Sakura EF-2701 cross. Same shell, different media.
Q: Which machines take LS21P01013R100?
A: Hytec lists it as the fuel filter for the Kobelco SK250-8 with the Hino J05E, and it appears against Kobelco and Case IH equipment in cross tables. Quote the serial and the fuel position when ordering, because several near-identical 94 mm elements fit the same housing.
Q: Is this a genuine Kobelco filter?
A: No — aftermarket element, cross-referenced for fitment. Kobelco and Hino are trademarks of their owners. Ask your Kobelco dealer for a genuine part by LS21P01013R100 if your service contract requires one.
